One two-month journey circling the Land Down Under was terminated days after the fatal incident of an senior woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a break. The liner left without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

An extensive hunt found her person the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

Head of the shipping company announced that travelers and personnel on the ship were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also published an revised communication, and said they had "provided a notice to the Commander" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the vessel.

"Based on limited details we have been informed, it looks that there was a lapse of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She added that she wished the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have undertaken that might have protected Mum's being".
