Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
